How the update to Office 365 update could affect your business

Microsoft 365 Logo

As part of a major update to the supported versions of Outlook for Windows that can connect to Microsoft 365 services, they will be retiring several Office and Microsoft 365 apps. What this means is as of 01/11/2021, those apps will no longer be able to connect with Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services.

What apps will be retired?

As a result of the update, the following apps will be retired:

Office 2013 version 15.0.4970.9999 and older
Office 2016 version 16.0.4599.9999 and older
Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise version 1705 and older
Microsoft 365 Apps for business version 1705 and older

What does this mean for your business?

As of November 1st 2021, anyone using the Microsoft versions mentioned above will need to upgrade to a supported version of Microsoft 365 Apps and Office, in order to utilise their services.

Businesses using newer versions than the one’s mentioned above, but not the current supported versions, may experience some connectivity issues.

What do I do next?

If you’re not sure whether you’re currently using a supported version of Microsoft 365 apps, you can visit the following link that will let you know by date order the update history for Microsoft 365 apps: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date. To see the latest updates for versions of Office that use Windows Installer, you can visit: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/office-updates-msi.

If your business is already using the supported versions of Outlook for Windows in Office and Microsoft 365, there’s no need to do anything as you’ll still continue connecting with 365 services as usual.
